Summer Camp

I never went to camp as a kid. Not even day camp. Ya’ll already know I have issues with my childhood so we won’t go there.

But, this year, since I’m turning 33 on the 20th, I figured ya gotta try camp SOME TIME! Well, a swap came up on Ravelry that I couldn’t pass up. Summer Camp Swap. It’s been loads of fun.

I got my care package two days ago… from Luna Lovegood, no less!! Apparently, Gemma Lynn Ravelry informed Luna how my parents had ditched me at a camp for the whole summer because “my owl ate my sisters guinea pig”. (Thanks, Gemma!!!) I love Luna. She’s quite a character. Not as smart as me, as I AM Hermione Granger (LOL!), but a very fun, lovable person.

She was very careful with what she sent me. She wanted to make sure I fit in with the Muggles. She wrote me a nice long letter to explain everything in my package.

She sent me a new pack of Wizard Cards “with foreign wizards like ‘Jeter’ and ‘Giambi’ along with “boring” pencils that “Muggles use instead of a quill & ink.”

“Sudoku,” says Luna, “is a game that Muggles play. I guess Muggles only have nine numbers, so I wonder how they count their own fingers & toes? How confusing it must be for them.”

The things that look like cards are really coffee that can “be made hot or iced” and she sent something the Muggles call “handmade washcloths” that Luna suggests can be used to hold the coffee once I mix it up.

She also sent me some little flaps to communicate with an ex-explorer named Endora so she can entertain me. But best of all, she sent me a “pink stick” she purchased at “the Weasley’s's’s new store. It’s a tempa-wand. When you hit the ball & it lights up, you have 9 1/3 minutes of magic! So you can turn the yarn into a really big bumblebee.” Apparently, Gemma disagrees with what I will do with the yarn. Gemma thinks I’ll make socks. GOOD GUESS GEMMA!

Luna, thanks soooo much for making this a fantastic swap. You rock as a pal and I can’t wait to meet you…although I have a feeling I already know who you are!
