PICTURE HEAVY POST!!!

I been a knitting fool!! I’ve been super tired lately from work. DH is very supportive of me lazying out on Chloe and just knitting away when I’m this tired. LOL Plus when you work OT at The Firm, sometimes there’s a lot of wait time for work so you can sit there and read or….KNIT. HA!

I have a few FOs to show you guys, plus I’ve cast on for several projects already.

Let’s start with the color red for today. Last year, at Rhinebeck (RHINEBECK!!!), Jeanine was on this RED binge. Every yarn or fiber or whatever she fell in love with was some shade of red. I realize that I’ve been on the same kick lately as far as my projects. I have no idea why that is. Just happened that way.

So here we have the Summertime Tunic from Interweave Knits Summer 2007. This is actually now a free pattern on their website. Knit up in a sturdy pink Rowan Summer Tweed, it’s an easy knit. I finished it in about a week and wore it to my first day back at The Firm. This yarn tears up your hands though, so if you ever knit with it, have some sort of balm handy!

Summertime Tunic

Source: Interweave Knits Summer 2007
Yarn: Rowan Summer Tweed in Pink
Cost: $6 per skein (used 6); total project cost: about $38 with the ribbon and beads
Size: Small (my gauge was different than the pattern)
Gauge: 4.5 sts per inch
Needles: Size 7 Addis
Started & finished: August 2007 (took about a week)

Next up, I finished my Cable Rib Socks, also from Interweave. I made the same coughmistakecough on the second sock that I made on the first sock. You know…my design modification. I love the colors on this sock. These are my second pair made with Socks That Rock yarn. I was very disappointed with my first pair (Jaywalkers in the Dreidel colorway). I am not happy about those socks at all! The color is way too yellow and just….ugh. But these. These Cable Rib have reinstated Socks That Rock in my eyes. Let’s see what the third pair will come out like as I have three more colorways in my stash: Lucy, Backstabber and Mudslide. One thing’s for sure about toe-up socks: you use up ALL the yarn.

While on the topic of socks, I’ll have you know that I cast on for Cristi‘s newly-designed Red Dwarf Knee Socks (free pattern!!). I’m using Schaeffer Anne doubled up. LOVE Schaeffer. These ain’t red, but their name is! Her pattern is super easy to knit up. You’ll memorize the design with the first repeat or two and then you don’t even need to look at the pattern! Way to go, chica.

Lastly for this post, I’ll show you my finished Airy Wrap Sweater from Fitted Knits made in Knit Picks Suri Dream. Many people on Ravelry were disappointed with the huge 50″ long ties that the pattern calls for you to knit. I think if you knit the pattern using the same yarn and you’re very thin, you can pull off those ties. Otherwise, fuck no. Me, if I were to do that, I’d look like a burrito. No thanks. I could’ve finished this one sooner but I was too busy trying to figure out what to do with the ties, and then Royal Empress sent me a comment on my color choice on Ravelry and we got to chatting via messages about the ties. She mentioned buttons and short ties and the lightbulb went off. I only knit ONE tie long enough to reach my hip. On the other side, I only knit the tie (which is really the front part of the wrap) to reach the opposite side. I scrunched up the parts that meet my sides on each front section and added buttons and Voila! Here you have it!!! I’m pleased with this sexy sweater and plan to wear it often. The Suri Dream is a very wonderfully soft yarn to knit with AND to wear. Not scratchy at all.

Couple of people asked me about Misty. She’s doing fine taking over my house and CHAIR!! She seems to think that I HAVE to let her sit on my chair even when I’m in it. She favors the right side of the chair so no matter who’s in it, that’s where she’ll lay.

This week I realized just HOW MUCH of a sock-knitting kick I’ve been on. While I thought I’d SLOWED DOWN the sock-knitting, turns out I have finished more than I’d thought! I guess that’s what happens when you have more than one pair of socks on the needles.

First up: Teosinte. Another great Anne Hanson (KnitSpot) pattern (BTW, she has a new online pattern store, have ya seen it?? No?? GO CHECK IT YO!) I modified it by knitting a reverse heel flap with a garter ridge edge thingy – LOVE this heel! Feels very comfy. The yarn is Claudia Handpainted. My first socks in Claudia and this yarn will DEFINITELY make more appearances in my knitting life because it was a joy to work with and the socks actually feel great when worn.

Second: Zokni. Meh. It’s a pretty enough lace pattern but for socks, I prefer a lace pattern that isn’t difficult to memorize so that I can knit the socks standing up on the train if need be, without having to hold a copy of the chart under my arm and glance at it every few sts. The yarn, very splitty but another one that feels great when worn and when knitting it (despite splittiness).

Third: Crosshatch Lace. I enjoyed knitting this pattern and it flew off my needles. Toe up, short-row heel. For the top of the sock, I used the Giotto sock pattern top. NOT a good idea. This top is NOT sturdy at ALL. The socks are floppy around the leg now and Lord knows that with my thick ass legs, I need something STIFF to hold up my socks. Well, not STIFF but it has to be tight. I had enough yarn left over from the Seacoast yarn I used for these that I ended up making Crosshatch Lace anklets for my 5 year old. So good yardage on that yarn. Nice to knit up too. But OH LAWD HAVE MERCY those socks hurts my feets! No matter what shoes I wear them in, they hurts the bottom of my feets. And I don’t have tender soles at all. I’m a TOUGH FEMALE, ya’ll. But these socks hurts, man. GEESH! I may have to use them for house socks.

Fourth: Sidewinder. The single one I finished. Look ya’ll: it fits my NINE YEAR OLD!!! Mind you, this is a size 9M, fingering yarn on size 1.5 Addis. Not sure what happened there, but since it fits her, I’ll knit the second one sooner or later. The yarn: Gedifra. Not crazy about it. This is my first time using it even tho it’s been marinating in my stash for a while now. It’s kinda rough feeling. I think I’m gonna soak the sock and see if it softens up after washing. I’ll get back to ya’ll on that.

Fifth (!): I started a pair of Cable Rib Socks. I really want to use up the STR that I got at Rhinebeck last year before THIS year’s trip! (RHINEBECK!!!) This yarn…I’m not a fan of it – or maybe I’m knitting it too tight (mediumweight yarn on size 1.5 addi’s) – the fabric looks good tho and I LOOOVE the colors in this yarn! Don’t you guys?? I made a mistake in the sock tho. Can you see it?

No?

How about NOW??

But I ain’t ripping that shit back to fix one tiny little missing cable. Fuck that. Who the hells gonna notice it?? I’m way past the heel now that I noticed it. I’ll rip it if Cristi rips back her Cap shawl to fix the mistake she made eleventeen thousand stitches back.
