A few posts back, I asked what was different about this picture:

Most of you noticed it was my use of DPNS. While I have always been a big follower of the magic loop, these dainty lace mitts were not knitting up slowly on my long circs. The 2-ply lace Still River Mill Yakaboo yarn was just too thin for the magic loop method so I pulled out ye ol’ dpns. The project just FLEW off the needles.

The Yakaboo, purchased at Rhinebeck from the same folks that I got Bison yarn from last year, is a blend of 40% yak, 40% merino and 20% bamboo. These lacey mitts are amazingly warm and soooo soft and comfy.

My fave part of this mitt is the finishing along the top of the hand and thumb edges. At first, I’d veered off the pattern and finished it using my own method of basically sewing down the folded over hem and binding off at the same time. That was on the first mitt. When I finished the second mitt, I tried it the way the pattern says (bind off, and THEN sew down the edging) and actually liked that method better. The top doesn’t need to be too stretchy since you don’t want it to be gaping, so the amount of give there is perfect. The edging is the neatest one I’ve knit on a pair of fingerless mitts. Most mitts have ribbed edgings that curl under at the palm with wear.

When this picture was taken, the mitts had already been worn for over a week and the edging looks just like it did when I first finished the mitts. Nice and neat.

I would definitely knit these mitts again as gifts or for myself. The project was quick enough, especially once I’d switched to dpns, and easy train knitting. And, even with the all-over lace pattern, the mitts have kept my hands nice and warm in these cold November temps.

Alyson, girl, you are ON A ROLL here! Yes, you figured it out. I am using all of your blog ID’s (or email addy’s) as my antispam words! I am adding everyone that posts to the list – but abbreviated. As part of my KFYS07, I want to share my stash with all of you, my dear loyal readers. So each month I will be giving away a package to one of you. All you have to do is comment on my posts. If your antispam word happens to be YOUR OWN EMAIL OR BLOG ID, all you have to do is copy down the spelling shown, email it to me at rosigarmendia AT gmail DOT com and I will pick one winner each month. I will let you pick from a list of goodies.

Although I don’t always reply, I love reading all of your comments and thoughts. I feel like someone out there actually wants to read what I have to say and look at my crappy (but sometimes good) pictures.

Now, to recap 2006. A year of many tears, smiles, laughter amongst the tears and a blessing to our family amidst all of the pain, Gian Lucius. That little baby has become our sunshine in this house. From the oldest to the youngest, he brightens our days with his smile and I thank God each and every day for having sent him safely to us.

Wow! I have more FOs than I thought. 49 total. I know there are 1 or 2 that I didn’t count.

To make it an even 50, here’s a DPN case I made this afternoon. Yes, I sew. LOL I wanted a case that held ALL of my dpns and I couldn’t find one commercially. Not even on ebay. Plus I wanted it made out of chinese silk. I used about a half yard of black and 1/4 yard of red. You like?

I knit it with the so-called “mistake” but I like how the loops came out. The mistake in the pattern was that it had you knit the loops thru a different way than normal. Fine by me. Worked out great.

I used Schaeffer Anne for the body and Blue Sky Alpacas Alpaca & Silk in plum for the Picot edging. I had almost the ENTIRE skein of Alpaca & Silk leftover so I get to make a nice lacey scarf with that.

Ya’ll see this? This here signifies the END OF THE DIET! I have reached my goal. Yup. I half-cheated this weekend when I bought the yarn for this hat but I was only a hat or a scarf away from finishing so it was just a small advance payment! HA!

This here is the 3-cornered hat from Elizabeth Zimmerman’s book Knitter’s Almanac. Same book that has the Ganomy hat. It was a super fast knit. I used Catalina Chunky yarn from the Yarn Tree DOUBLE stranded on size 13 needles. The only mod I did was to cast on an additional 6 sts because apparently my head is too big! Actually, it was because EZ has a gauge of 5.25 sts per 2″. Mine is 5 sts….now that I measure it!! Geeze! I made a booboo! LOL When I had cast on the required 36 sts the hat wasn’t fitting me. Go figure. Oh well. I love how big and bulky it is.

Whaddya think?

Yarn: Catalina Chunky 100% Baby Alpaca
Needles: Size 13 Knit Picks Options
Cost: $11.60 per skein, took 2 skeins plus a tad bit of another
Ended: November 28, 2006

Now for my treat for reaching my goal, I’m shopping at the following two etsy shops: Yarnahoy and Adam Knits. I know what I’m getting from Adam already. It’s this DELISH colorway he has!!! Still browsing Yarnahoy.

But I think that’s it for now. Too much holiday shopping to do! So..back on the yarn diet again until the next 5 projects are complete!

I know we sure did. We stuffed our faces and were all cozy and warm at home as a family, happily, together. I’m glad it was a beautiful day because my son, Alex, had made a comment to me a couple of weeks earlier about how this year it would be different because of “you know who” that she used to cook and what not. Well, guess what? Rosi G. kicked ASS with the cooking ya’ll!! We were all sooo happy with how it all turned out. It was just us and then later on that evening a couple of friends came over with their daughter and ate.

Rosi G. also did LOTS of knitting this weekend. In fact, I barely moved some days! LOL All I wanted to do was chill and knit. There was leftovers to eat so no cooking. WOO HOO!

I was looking at my list of WIPs the other day and I told myself, Rosi G. you are going to finish that freaking Kimono sweater this weekend. And so I did.

And I said, Rosi G. you gotta do something about that Underwater Afghan that you KNOW you’re knot wanting to knit. Straight Garter soooo boring. YAAAAAAAAAWN. And so I decided that I’m gonna rip it and knit an afghan with the Encore doubled up similar to My Greatest Masterpiece.

And guess what else I did this weekend? I broke my yarn diet. I sure as all fuck did. I mean, ferfuxsake, have ya’ll seen how I’ve been burning up those needles?? Whipping out FO’s like a mofo! HA!

So I treated myself to some jarn from the Yarn Tree for a MATCHING hat and scarf for me. Because I have tons that don’t match. LOL I bought some Catalina Chunky Alpaca. Good GRIEF is this yarn SOFT! No pix. Sorry.

But you see, I didn’t really cheat on the diet ya’ll. Why, you say? What excuse do I have for possibly going on Saturday night and going to the Yarn Tree and buying yarn??

Well, ya’ll. I made something else this weekend, too.

That’s a Baby Surprise Jacket. All about the EZ ya’ll. All about EZ.

Now you tell me: didn’t this knitter deserve a treat???? And that’s not ALL I did this weekend. But the rest will be for a post later this week! HA!
