WOW! That was my first superbowl and what a game it was! I don’t know much about it but I got caught up in all the yelling, jumping, high 5’s and foot stomping going on at my house with my cuzzos and Tano and kids watching the game. VERY exciting time! :) I loved it. I think we’ll have another Superbowl party in coming years. It wasn’t half bad.

On to the knitting! Have you guys seen this new contest? I’m entering so get ready to cheer me on in April…if you think I deserve it. :) I have my yarn and a bunch of pages scribbled with designs all ready to go. Swatching begins TONIGHT!

Besides a crapload of Capitán’s, I’ve also knit other stuff. A friend asked me to knit her up some baby items for a coworker about to give birth. Here’s what I came up with:

Simple Baby Cardigan

Source: Lionbrand
Yarn: Järbo Garn Baby Pascal Solid in Gray and Yellow (yarn held tripled; used 2.2 skeins of Gray and 0.3 skeins of Yellow for the embroidery)
Total Cost: $12.87
Needles: Size US 10.5
Started & Finished: January 2008
Mods: I didn’t do the hood, as you can see. I opted for about 10 ridges of garter instead. I also did the whole body in the round up to the armholes, did 3-needle bind off on the shoulders. For the sleeves, I picked up stitches around the armholes and did those in the round also. I charted the name and embroidered it. All in all, a super-speedy knit.

Not bad for a bunch of little baby gifts eh? I hear the recipient thought they were adorable. Personally, I fell in love with the Blanket Buddy and it was kinda hard to let it go.

Un Verano en Nueva York

Summertime in New York. Hot, muggy, yek. So we hit the pool a lot at Chez G. No, not OUR pool but city pools. Particularly, Jones Beach. We LURVE Jones Beach pool. This summer, I bought a one piece suit, cuz let’s be real: I ain’t gonna look good in no two piece!

Now, the one piece looked fine enough, but I wanted/needed a cover-up. I consulted with my favorite designer, Anne Hanson (ya’ll remember her right? HEHEHE!). I originally thought to maybe do a shawl and wrap it around me like a sarong and she said, “Oh, but have you seen Sangria??”

To me, Sangria is my all-time favorite wine from the Dominican Republic. Sweet. Manischewitz is the only thing that I’ve found close to it here. No surprise that Anne’s Sangria is going to be my new favorite bathing suit cover-up!

I wanted it short and flirty so I didn’t do too many repeats of the different charts. It came out PERFECTLY!!!!!!!!! I didn’t even block it. Just put it on.

When I walked out of the house it barely covered my humongous gigantous voluptous trunk. I don’t have and won’t post pictures of that scene. HEHEHE But it looked so cute! When we got to the pool, my girlfriend says, “That’s not the skirt you told me you were making for the summer.” I said, “Yes, it is.” She goes, “Gitthefuckouttahere!!!!” I said, “Yep.” She goes, “WHERE THE HELL IS MINE?!?!?!”

ON WITH THE PICTURES!

After a good dunk in the pool, this is what my skirt looked like when I got home:

It grew an inch or twelve!! Blocking. The miracle of lace knitting.

Anne, thanks so much for recommending this pattern. I am so in love with it and I looked like a SEXY BEAST with it on! Lots of admiring looks, males and females. Heh! It covered up my ASSets very well, thank you! SMOOCHES!!

Pattern: Sangria Skirt
Source: KnitSpot
Yarn: Knit Picks Shine Worsted in Terra Cotta
Cost: $2.49 per skein (used 8 skeins, total cost: $19.92 ROCK ON!!!!)
Gauge: 20 sts = 4″ on size 6 needles in stockinette
Needles: Size 5 thru 9 Webs Bamboo Interchangeables
Started: June 11, 2007

WIP Update

Wednesday morning, I was at the train station waiting and I pulled out my scarf to knit on. This woman sitting next to me says, “You know, I’ve seen you on the train knitting all the time. You inspired me to sign up for a knitting class in my building! It looks so relaxing!” I said “YOU DID??? THAT’S GREAT!!!” I asked her what building and it ended up being that she’s taking the class at Stitches East on 53rd. That convo made my day. I felt so happy to have inspired someone to actually start to knit!

WIP Update

I’m working steadily on all my WIPs and finishing lots of things lately. I have that Dreaded Yarn Diet, ya know!

DSCF0320I started a new project yesterday: a scarf from the Elizabeth I series. This is the Town & Country one. Very easy. It’ll be a xmas gift.

ReeseDouble Flower ClothHere is a Multidirectional scarf that I started for my boss’s hubby for xmas (she has no kids so I decided to make him something instead. She’s always very generous to me and my kids during the holidays.) Yarn: Lorna’s Laces Shepherd Worsted
I started the Double Flower Washcloth (thanks, Theresa!). I’m ready to continue it and fly through it on circs but it’s the same size needle as the scarf! LOL Yarn: Tahki Willow
Lady EleanorNegative Bricks Socks (2)I think I mentioned before that I’m doing a Lady Eleanor from Scarf Style KAL with Jeanine. Yarn: Patons SWS

I started the legs of the Negative Bricks socks and didn’t like how the pattern was making the leg not-stretchy enough. So these will be regular old stockinette socks now w/maybe a cute ribbing at top. Probably Mistake Rib cuz ya’ll know how I love me some Mistake Ribbing!!! Yarn: Mountain Colors Bearfoot
Unfinished Fetching (2)Seamless HybridThe Fetchings are still unfinished only because of the yarn situation (I ran out of the original yarn). I really don’t feel like ripping back on the finished one to use another yarn to finish both. WAAAAAAAAAH! Yarn: Tahki New Tweed

The Seamless Hybrid is slowly chugging along. I’m not too fast on stockinette in size 6 needles apparently!!!!! Yarn: Dale of Norway Sisik

Baby KimonoUnderwater AfghanAnother thing I don’t enjoy doing is too much garter. I dunno WHY I haven’t finished this Baby Kimono, really! Maybe I’ll try to finish it this weekend. Yarn: Cascade Pima Tencel
Let’s not even talk about the Underwater Baby Afghan. Still at the same point from months ago. Yarn: Patons Plymouth Encore

Well, that’s my WIP update. I HAVE been finishing a bunch of things as ya’ll know so I don’t feel too bad about those last two UFO’s. They’ll get done…eventually!
