Whipping Out WIPs Weekend Contest

Sizzle (2)Sizzle (3)Happy Monday, all! Unlike other Mondays where I’ve bitched and moaned about the fact that it’s…well, MONDAY, today I feel good. Why do I feel good? Because I LOOK good. I’m SIZZLING baby!! I’m wearing my hot-off-the-needles Sizzle. Damn if this thing doesn’t make one feel sexy. Seriously. The yarn (Debbie Bliss Cathay) is like silk against the skin. I’m loving it! I think next time tho I should go down a size on any top I make. I know I’ve lost some weight but Sizzle seems a bit too loose and I would’ve liked it a little tighter around the waist. Or maybe it’s the yarn, who the hell knows. What do ya’ll think???

Anastasias (2)Flow Motion Socks (1)Also off the needles this weekend are Anastasias (in Koigu) and Flow Motion (in Trekking XXL) (IK Fall 2006) socks. (Click on the pix to see many other photos of each.) Funny, right after posting my Sock History, my handmade sock stash is two pairs richer! HA! I cut the Flow Motion socks smaller by two repeats. I wasn’t enjoying the pattern. Can’t memorize the lace rows so I had to think too much and pay too much attention. NOT a good thing for me apparently. BUT with the Anastasias, man once I hit the leg it was ON baby! The whole experience was fun and quick. LOVED it! Can’t say that enough!

Someone purchased all of my Kroy sock yarns off of DeStash so I took that opportunity to offer up my unfinished Fleck socks. I neeeeded to get those out of my sight! She graciously accepted (Bless her heart!). (PS: I have a few other things listed on DeStash so check them out!)
Airy Scarf StartSo taking all of those WIPs off of my list had a purpose (with only one tiny added, a Habu silk mohair (from Yarn Tree) Airy Scarf (from Last Minute Knitted Gifts) which will be a Holiday gift for the other attorney I assist, Shannon). I am DYING to cast on for a lace shawl! I’m sooo torn! So, help me figure out what shawl to make as my first true lace shawl. I also need tips as far as lifelines and all that other jazz.
Here are the yarns I have waiting in the wings to cast on for a shawl (click each link for pix of the colors I have in my stash):

To participate, just post your comment here stating which yarn to use with your recommended shawl pattern. I will choose a pattern by Friday and announce the winner during Yarn Pr0n. (I took a bunch of advance pix so I don’t get yelled at by Cristi – Turtlegirl). HA!

I’m looking forward to reading your comments. Oh, and tell all your knitting buddies to come post their suggestions, too! There will be some lovely yarn goodness in it for the winning shawl pattern chosen.

  1. You rockin the Sizzle girl! I love it!

Where do you find the time to knit? Really! I need to know because my spinning is really taking over and I can’t find the time to knit as much as I want to.

As far as the shawl, I’d have to say that I am a little biased. I love Seasilk and I’m planning on doing my next shawl with that. And again, the only shawl I’ve ever done is the Swallowtail one which took no time at all. So there’s my vote. See you Saturday.

  2. I think your Sizzle looks fabulous!!! This is the second one I’ve seen in white and it is beautiful. Fits you well, too! Thanks for sharing…!

  3. Your sizzle is smoking. Now on to this contest. I’m gonna recommend patterns, but I don’t think you have enough of any one yarn. However, that shouldn’t really be a problem, because if I know you like I think you do, it’s not beneath you to buy more yarn to complete a really GREAT project. So without further adieu here you go:

    Bed of Roses Shawl

    and 24K Shawl

Necia (24K Shawl gets my vote big time)

  4. Girl,

You look HOT HOT HOT! Wow. You finished 2 pairs of socks. I’m jealous

    I’ve got a couple of suggestions for a shawl…

    As I mentioned before…

    Leaf Lace Shawl

Karabella Gossamer Shawl – this would work well with KP Alpaca Cloud

Perfect Pie Shawl from Weekend Knitting
I believe there was a knit along for this awhile back

    Kiri Shawl

Wool Peddler’s Shawl from ‘Folk Shawls

  5. That Sizzle does look good!! And it’s the yarn, I’m tellin’ you. My Picovoli was knit in Cathay too, and I love it but damn if it isn’t WAY too big. And I knit for a 36″ bust, and I have a 37″.

Nice socks too – you’re cracking right along!

(May I suggest the Fall ’06 IK Swallowtail Shawl for the Handmaiden? I ran out of yarn, but my tension sucks – I still love the way the finished product looks! And I have two more skeins of Sea Silk – I’m looking at Kiri as well, and the Shetland Triangle from Wrap Style.)

  6. Your Sizzle looks fantastic! The socks are awesome too. I love the Anastasia socks 🙂

I have a skein of Seasilk anxiously waiting to become this shawl: http://lettuceknit.com/archive.html#july06_c
(I think they’ll mail the pattern if you wanted to order it…)

Another shawl I can’t wait to knit is Flower Basket Shawl, which was in IK a while ago. It would be nice in Anne or Lisa Souza. And you would have enough yarn for either pattern!

  7. Sizzle is awesome! And the socks, wow. 2 in one weekend! That’s awesome!

For the alpaca cloud – I’ve heard it looks great as the Swallowtail Lace Shawl from the recent IK.

  8. I think you should definitely make a Kiri shawl. I just made one myself and I think it’s a brilliant way to get into knitting lace as it is repetitive enough to be easy but challenging enough not to be boring.

You don’t have quite the yardage that she uses in the pattern but all you need to do is do a couple fewer repeats than done in the pattern (the pattern picture shows a shawl with 12 repeats, I just did one with 11 and it was still a big shawl, with your yardage I would recommend 10 repeats).

If I were you I would use one of these to make the Kiri:
    # Schaeffer Anne (1 skein – 560 yds)
    # Lisa Souza (1 skein – 560 yds)
