My babysitter, Feliza, is from Mexico. She’s been working with us for about 3 years now. We all love her. The kids also love her cooking. I swear Alex is gonna marry a Mexican woman who makes fresh tortillas and taquitos.
Not too long ago, she told me about a breakfast drink she makes for her own daughter who is 13-years-old and she makes it for GLuc who happily drinks two bottles back to back. I asked her what was in it. She said bananas, a handful of raw oatmeal, milk, and BEETS. I almost gagged on the phone.
Don’t get me wrong. I LOVE beets – in a salad. In a drink, it just brings back BAAAAAAAAAAAD memories of TWFKAM making me drink a mixture that included beets and tasted NASTEEEEEE when I first started getting my period to rebuild the blood in my system. 😯 YUCK!
Apparently, the rest of my clan also like this drink that Feliza makes. So the other night I said, “Ok, let’s try it!”
I LOVE IT!!! OMG, it is one of THE best tasting smoothies I’ve ever had!! Here’s the recipe for you guys. Make this healthy drink for your kids, throw it on ice, and feel good about them drinking it!
B&B (Beets and Bananas)
Ingredients:
- 1/2 can of sliced beets
- 1 cup of uncooked oats
- 1 cup of water
- 1 cup of vanilla ice cream
- 1/2 cup of sugar
- 1 banana, sliced
- milk
Blend the oats in the water on high until liquified and no bits remain. Add the rest of the ingredients to the blender, filling it up with milk. Blend thoroughly. Serve over ice.
Apparently, you could also sweeten with honey, add cinnamon, add sweet potatoes. Lots of possibilities. This version above is the Rosi G. version with the sugar and ice cream because I believe all smoothies should be sweet. Cuz I’m a kid like that!
Now, the knitting: I’m happily knitting on my Tempest II. But, I dunno….I’m not too crazy about the colors so far. You can’t make out the stripes. What do you guys think? (Please take the poll below.)
